June is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus because the Feast of the Sacred Heart falls during this month, celebrating Christ’s immense love and mercy for humanity.
The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus gained prominence in the 17th century through the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French nun of the Visitation Order. Between 1673 and 1675, Jesus appeared to her, revealing His heart aflame with love, pierced and surrounded by a crown of thorns, and instructed her to promote devotion to His Sacred Heart. He requested practices such as holy hours on Thursdays and receiving Communion on the first Friday of each month. On June 16, 1675, Jesus asked for a feast in honor of His Sacred Heart, promising abundant graces to those who venerate it and follow these devotions EWTN Global Catholic Television Network+2
